Built to include everyone

Publishing data is only half the job

Sterling is committed to making its public data usable by every reader, including people who use assistive technology. This portal was built to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA from the first line of code, consistent with our obligations under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

  • Every chart has a text description and a full data table alternative
  • Everything works with a keyboard alone
  • Values are visible on screen, not hidden behind hover states
  • Nothing depends on color alone, and reduced motion is respected
  • Every page is designed for a phone first, because that is how most families will visit

Why we publish this data

Federal law requires colleges and universities to disclose information about costs, financial aid, enrollment, and student outcomes, and to report institutional data to the U.S. Department of Education each year. Sterling meets those requirements here and goes further: everything on this site is interactive, accessible, and downloadable.
